Conversations
How Kiln AI threads and conversation history work.
Every interaction with Kiln happens in a thread — a persistent conversation that you can resume at any time.
Starting a conversation
Click Kiln AI in the sidebar to open the AI landing page.
New thread
Type a message to start a new conversation. Threads are created instantly (~300ms) when you send your first message.
Resume a thread
The landing page shows your recent threads under "Continue where you left off". Click any thread to resume where you left off with full context preserved.
Agent tier
Select an agent tier (Lite or Pro) before starting. Your selection is remembered for future sessions. See Agent tiers for details.
Thread history
All conversations are saved automatically.
Browsing history
Open the history panel in the sidebar to browse all previous threads. Each entry shows its title, timestamp, and a preview.
Thread icons
Threads are assigned contextual icons based on their content, making it easier to scan your history visually.
Attachments
Files and images
Drag and drop files into the input area, or click the attachment button. Kiln can analyze images, read documents, and use file content as context for its responses.
@Mentions
Type @ in the chat input to mention specific issues or team members, giving Kiln direct context about what you're discussing.
Deep linking
URL parameters
Kiln supports deep linking via ?prompt= query parameters. This means other parts of Prodedify — like the command palette, issue actions, or notifications — can open Kiln with pre-filled prompts.
Command palette integration
From the command palette (Cmd+K), you can launch Kiln with a specific task — like "develop this issue" or "triage my backlog".
