Agent tiers

Kiln offers two agent tiers that balance speed, capability, and credit usage.

Lite

The Lite tier is optimized for quick interactions and everyday tasks.

Best for

• Asking questions about your project
• Creating and updating issues
• Searching and filtering work
• Getting summaries and suggestions

Tradeoffs

Lite uses fewer credits per interaction and responds faster, but has a shorter context window and no sandbox access.

Pro

The Pro tier provides full capabilities including sandbox access and longer context windows.

Best for

• Building features and writing code
• Complex multi-step workflows
• Large codebase analysis
• GitHub operations (branches, PRs, code review)

Tradeoffs

Pro uses more credits but can handle substantially more complex tasks with deeper context.

Selecting a tier

From the landing page

Choose your tier from the agent tier selector on the Kiln AI landing page before starting a conversation.

Persistence

Your selection is stored locally and remembered for future sessions. You can change it at any time before starting a new thread.

Credits

How credits work

Both tiers consume credits from your workspace's credit balance. Credit usage varies by the complexity of the interaction and the underlying model used.

Tracking usage

Credit consumption is tracked per message and visible in the conversation. Each message shows its token usage and cost.

Managing your balance

Go to Settings → Billing to view your credit balance, purchase additional credit packages, or review spending history.
